Abraham Rabinovich, in The Yom Kippur War, quotes Gen. David Elazar (Meir's chief of staff) as saying on Rosh Hashana eve, "We'll have 100 tanks [on Golan] against their 800. That ought to be enough." Why this very good book has attracted zero attention is a mystery to me. It's the best piece on the intelligence failures before the war I've read.
